Harris Hikers Solo Adventures Tuesday 10th May 2020

A Saltney Ferry. Balderton and Bretton Round with a little extra.
Looking across the fields towards Moel Famau from the Saltney to Balderton Path.
Cracks in the hard mud path across The Commons.
The path through Sedge warbler territory.
Traffic on the A55 from the bridge near Common Farm, Balderton.
First example of fly tipping.
A Pied wagtail on Lesrters Lane - they are worse than children to film!
The second example of fly tipping.
The A55 from the Bretton Lane Road Bridge.
The start of the path that I will you next time.
Chester Road from Bretton to Saltney.
Distance: 6.9 miles. Climb: 107'.
Time: 3 hours 20 minutes. On the move walking average: 2.5 m.p.h. Overall walk average 2.1 m.p.h.
I left home at about 12-30, so this was going to be an afternoon stroll along roads and one rough track across The Commons from Sandy Lane to Balderton.
I made the mistake of wearing sandals - I had forgotten how uneven the track was in places, but at least the mud was rock hard and cracking in places.
I did manage to hear and see a couple of Skylarks singing over The Lache Eyes, but didn't see a Lapwing until I waonChester Road, Bretton.
Birds seen or heard today included: House sparrow, Collared dove, Barn swallow, Mallard, Winter wren, European robin, Greenfinch, Chiffchaff, Common whitethroat, Jackdaw, Carrion crow, Rook, Greylag goose, House martin, Woodpigeon, Blue tit, Great tit, Blackcap, Chaffinch, Common starling, Common buzzard, Laping, Black billed magpie, Sedge warbler and Pied wagtail.
Traffic on the minor road between Balderton and Bretton was less than when I walked this way on a Saturday. Similarly traffic on the A55 was that busy either. Perhaps the busiest was the A5104 between Bretton and Saltney, but even that was in fits and starts,
The disappointment of the day was seeing two cases of fly tipping on Lesters Lane that has appeared in the last 5 days.
Arriving at Bretton, I planned to look for a footpath that went across to Chester Road, opposite the builders yard. Unfortunatley I missed the point where it left Bretton Lane between the houses, so I decided to see if it was waymarked of Chester Road. It was, and at least the start looks quite well used. a new path to look forward to using on the next occasion that I do this round.
One or two new flowers to add to the list. These included Common mallow and Silverweed.
