An Early Morning Time Trial 10th August 2022

Chester Station - the start of the walk.

The steps to the canal towpath
07-05 - too early for breakfast at Old Harkers.

The towpath heading towards Hoole Lane.
Moorhens on the Shropshire Union Canal.
Approaching the Bridge Inn Boughton - still too early for breakfast.
Approaching Christleton.
The Chesire Cat - still too early for breakfast.
Eggbridge Lane bridge, Waverton.
1 hour 5 minutes later  I arrived at Weverton Evangelical Fellowship - the end of the time trial!
Looking back towards Christleton from Eggbridge Lane Bridge.
Do I walk back to Chester or do I catch the next bus?
The final reward.
The "time trial" was from Chester Station to Waverton Evangelical Fellowship, to see if walking to church on Sunday was a realistic option, catching the first bus from Saltney and walking along the towpath to WEF and arriving by 10-30 (the start of the normal Sunday Service).
Distance: 3.6 miles. Climb: 95'.
Time: 1 hour 5 mnutes. Overall walk average: 3.3 m.p.h.
My first bus on a Sunday gets me to Chester Station at 09-17, so if it is on time I would be able to get to church on time.
The usual Wednesday walk today was postponed as no-one thought walking when temperature are above 25 Celsius was a god idea.
I caught the 06-48 bus hat arrived at Chester Station just after 07-00 and it wasn't long before I was on the Shropshire Union Canal towpath.
The temperature at this time was really pleasant, almost perfect for walking and helped by the fact that the towpath was shaded by the adjacent trees or buildings for several stretches.  however at other times the Sun was still low in the sky making it difficult to see even with sunglasses and cricket hat on.
Having successfully completed the "time trial", and deciding to opt for the easy way back by catching the next 41 bus back into Chester.  I had just over 20 minutes to wait, so instead of standing at the bust stop in the glare of the Sun and the temperature starting to rise, I decided to go to the local Waverton cafe - "The Eggbridge Roll"  for cup of tea - i resisted the temptation to have a traditional English breakfast,
I caught the 08-37 bus from Brown Heath Lane to Chester Station and then headed to The Square Bottle where I did have my full traditional breakfast before catching the bus home.

That's a nice walk along the canal. It takes in so much of the history of Chester. It's even better if you start a little earlier on the path, say from Telford's Warehouse. No good though for finding out how long it would take to walk to Church on a Sunday.
