Walk Stats:Distance: 7.1 miles. Climb: 1234’Time: 4 hours 14 minutes. On the move walking average: 2.4 m.p.h.
Overall walk average: 1.7 m.p.h.
Temperature: 6.6 – 7.2 Celsius.
Beaufort Wind Force: Max 2 just a Light breeze as we crossed Conwy Mountain.
Group: Martyn and Mike.
The weather early on was largely overcast and for much of the walk there was a dampness in the air and low cloud covered the hills
Birds seen or heard today included: Jackdaw, Carrion crow, Raven, Common blackbird, Black billed magpie, Great tit, Blue tit, European robin, Woodpigeon, Common redshank, Herring gull, Teal, Great cormorant and Wigeon.
We had lunch just as after crossing the Sychnant Pass road after entering the Pensychnant estate.
We didn’t relish the idea of walking in low cloud crossing Maen Esgob, so we decided to cut the walk short and take the path on the south side of Gwern Engen and rejoin our original route south the Lodge.
Arriving back at Conwy, we decided to explore the walks taking the eastern side of the walls first.
The walls are more exposed than I remembered and I was grateful for hand rails provided.
Overall an enjoyable walk despite the weather not being perfect!
Arriving at The Albion we found it so full that we couldn’t find a single seat available, so we ended up at the Bank of Conwy where I enjoyed a pint of Big Hand’s Solaris (£3-80) and Mike had a Ginger beer.
We also called in at the Erskine arms where they had one beer from the Conwy Brewery and one from the Purple Moose Brewery. More of an eatery, but there was a small area near the bar where you might just have a drink.
