This turned out to be a really good day for walking weather-wise, although the distant clouds threatened as they approached towards us, they passed us by. It was pleasantly warm throughout the walk.
Distant views were generally good, we could clearly see the cranes at Liverpool Docks as we walked along Presthaven Sands.
As a change, we decided to complete the walk in a clockwise direction, leaving Coed Bell and its Bluebells towards the end of the walk.
Although this was a Bluebell walk, we saw lots of other flowers as well including: Gorse, Red campion, Lesser stitchwort, Dandelion, Green alkanet and Daisy.
A few butterflies were seen as well, these including: Peacock, Small white, Large white, Orange tip and Speckled wood.
Walks often seem very different when completed in the opposite direction than normal, today was no exception. In many ways it seemed easier doing the walk this way round and it was better going downhill on the road back to the cars than climbing up the road.
Lunch was taken in the usual place near Home Farm / Talacre Abbey, but a little earlier than usually – we had finished lunch by 12-15!
We entered Coed Bell from the East and it was this side of the wood that had by far the best display of Bluebells.
Birds seen and heard today included: Chiffchaff, Sedge warbler, Common chaffinch, European robin, Winter wren, Common blackbird, Carrion crow, Jackdaw, Rook, Goldfinch, Willow warbler, Common whitethroat, Woodpigeon, Blackcap, Herring gull, Black billed magpie, Dunnock, Little egret, Stonechat, Reed bunting, Mallard, Canada goose, Common buzzard, House sparrow, Common pheasant, Great spotted woodpecker, Dunnock, Barn swallow and Common swift.
We arrived back at the cars, having completed our best Bluebell Walk of the year so far.
It seems we were lucky to have had a dry walk, when I called in at the Blue Bell in Halkyn (for a takeaway) the roads were wet as were the roads when I got home.
