The hottest day of the year was on the forecast for today, perhaps not the best day to to set off from Llangollen to climb out of the valley on what feels like a relentless climb up the Allt y Badi "road"!
Once out of the valley we did get good views across the valley towards the Eglwyseg escarpments and Dinas Bran, although he views were alway somewhat hazy.
After passing Mc Jones's Strip (wood), only Ed and Mike decided the trek to Biddulph Tower was worth the exrtra effort.
Four of us heard the very distant call of a Cuckoo, probably as far over as the Eglwyseg Valley, where we have seen and heard them before.
Lunch was taken at a small copse south east of Vivod Mountain, just as our path from Y Foel joined the North Berwyn Way.
It was a good place for lunch, with plenty of fallen tree trunks providing perching spots and a gentle breeze to cool us.
After lunch we followed the North Berwyn Way towards the "Wilderness" (a very appropriate name), and on to Ffynnon-las Wood and back to Llangollen.
The steady descent along The North Berwyn Way stony track back to Llangollen, provided plenty of grumbles all the way, so much so that it was almost unanimous to not repeat this wonderful walk ever again!
We all arrived back at the cars feeling pretty tired and glad to take our boots off and expose our feet to the cooling breeze.
Birds seen or heard today included: Common swift, Common pheasant, Barn swallow, Common buzzard, Common chaffinch. Meadow pipit, Skylark, Carrion crow and Red legged partridge.
After walk drinks were taken sitting outside at the The Sun at Trevor - Cambrian Gold brewed by the local Stonehouse Brewery being enjoyed by all present.
I will need to be more creative if Y Foel and Vivod Mountain are to appear of future walk lists!
