We started on Cayley Promenade in Llandrillo-yn-Rhos, using the recently marked out parking places. There were plenty of benches nearby to use when putting our boots on. Cayley Promenade gives superb views over the new sandy beach between Rhos Point and Colwyn Bay beach.
The morning weather was much better than we expected, bright and sunny and feeling pretty warm.
After lunch the weather was not as good, as the rain started and progressively became heavier, so much so that we missed out Coed Pwllcrochan and headed back to the car as fast as we could, seeing parts of Colwyn Bay not originally on our planned route.
On this occasion we walked along the coast as far as St. Trillo’s Church, admiring the many new interactive art work placed along the promenade. These include charging points for you mobile where you could sit overlooking the sea while you waited for your mobiles recharged.
We did get good views of Yr Eryri from the top of Bryn Euryn, but Eryri was obviously not getting the same warm sunny weather we were enjoying.
Arriving at Cystennin Road, two of us opted to head down the road to Mochdre, while Mike decided to take the planned route across farm land and the hillside above the quarry before descending to Cystennin Road. Eventually we met up again at the playground in Mochdre, our lunch spot. Mike’s only comment when he arrived at Mochdre was to say “You chose the right way”, pointing to his very muddy boots.
Birds seen or heard today included: Jackdaw, Carrion crow, European robin, Common blackbird, Great tit Common buzzard, Eurasian curlew, Herring gull, Song thrush, Goldfinch, Wood nuthatch, Black billed magpie, Greenfinch, Woodpigeon, Winter wren and Rook.
We were all happy to arrive back at the cars, remove are waterproofs and walking boots and get out of the rain.
An enjoyable walk until it started to rain at about 13-30 and accompanied us for the rest of the walk.
After walk drinks were enjoyed at The Picture House in Colwyn Bay, where beers from Purple Moose and Conwy Breweries were sampled.
