The weather forecast suggested that it would be rather windy, but any rain would stop just after 10-00.
Alas the timing was a little out, and we did get rain as we battle against the wind around the Marine Lake and on the way to Little Eye.
We didn’t linger long on Hilbre Island and wind assisted we raced across the sand back to West Kirby
At the Marine Lake we were impressed by the Wind Surfers as they displayed their skills as they raced across the water.
Lunch was taken in the shelter of the Victoria Gardens, but we were a little disappointed to find all four shelters already occupied.
After lunch we headed along the beach towards Red Rocks and returned to West Kirby from Hoylake using the footpath from the station that followed in parallel to the railway line.
Birds seen or heard today included: Carrion crow, Goosander, Shag, Great cormorant, Turnstone, Herring gull, Oystercatcher, Dunlin, Eurasian curlew, Common redshank, Meadow pipit, Stonechat, House sparrow and Brent goose.
Overall an enjoyable walk, despite not seeing the Great northern diver. Well worthy of visiting the Wheatsheaf at Raby with its real fires and good selection of real ales. My choice was Vanilla Porte from the Hafod Brewery, Wainright and Trappers Hat (Brimstage Brewery) were also enjoyed.
