Moel Famau, Clwyd Forest, Around Ffrith Mountain and Cae Newydd 2nd May 2022

Storm damage in the Clwyd Forest with Fran and Mike forge ahead.

Bluebells on verge as we went around Ffrith Mountain.
Just a few goats in the field  by Ffrith Farm.
Mid-afternoon refreshmet stop.
One of the many Dog viokets seen today.
Looking north down th Clwydian Way that leads to Cilcain.
Waiting at the crossroads.
Is it a Skylark?
Skylark with commentry!
The final approach to Moel Famau.
Just to show we all made it to the top of the Jubilee Tower on Moel Famau.
Offa's Dyke Path leading to Bwlch Penbarra.
Walk stats:
Distant: 8.2 miles. Climb: 1590'.
Time: 4 hours 33 minutes. On the move waking average: 2.2 m.p.h. Overall walk average: 1.8 m.p.h.
Temperature: 17.9 Celsius at our mid-afternoon refreshment stop, Beufort wind Force: 0 -1 hardly making it even to light air, when the humidy making us wish it would at least be a refreshing breeze!
Circumstances (my need to help at WEF cafe in the morning and Richard G's funeral on Wednesday meant Bank Holiday Monday was the only way we would get a mid-week walk in this week, but it would be about 13-39 start at the earliest.
As we approached the Moe Famau car parks we were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a parking space, but thankfully the endless stream of cars heading back towards Loggerheads meant thee was space for us when we arrived at Bwlch Penbarra.
This was a good and varied walk and considering the humidy, it was probably a good decision not take the option of extending the walk to 10 miles.
The star bird of the day, not seen, but heard first by Ed and later clearly heard by all of us, was the iconic Spring bird a Cuckoo. This was the first Cuckoo that I have heard this year.
Other birds seen or heard today included: Willow warbler, Chiffchaff, Winter wren, Common chaffinch, Balckcap, European robin, Common pheasant, Common buzzard, Wood nuthatch, Grey heron, Barn Swallow and Carrion crow,
The hedgerow flowers were also delightful and as May is Bluebell month for me it was good see lots of them, some with quite deep blue bells.
Distant views today weren't good, but it didn't stop us enjoying the walk and most of us celebrating with a pint of purple Moose' Snowdonia Ale at The Druids Inn Llanferres.
