Harris Hikers Adventures (Solo for some) Tuesday 9th June 2020

A Walk Along the River and a Stroll Around the Block.
Moorhens with chicks, one family or two?
Looking across the River Dee from The Riverside on River Lane, Saltney.
Looking towards Saltney Ferry Footbridge  from The Riverside on River Lane, Saltney, with the approaching tide just visible.
The tide is getting close.
Approaching tide 1.
Approaching tide 2.
Approaching tide 3, wiith a Carrion crow getting into the act.
The tide has past and now heading towards Chester.
House martin homes, at least one occupied.
Bird of the day - a Long-tailed tit.
I wonder who they are looking for today.
A Common buzzard circles over Sandy Lane, Saltney.
Initially being harassed by a Carrion crow, but the crow soon gave up.
Distance: 3.6 miles. Climb: 34'.
Only an afternoon walk for me today with a better offer in the morning - shoppin and a garden visit with a friend.
It was rather overcast for most of the time, but towards the end of the walk, the Sun broke through and it became pleasantly warm.
arriving at The Riverside on River Lane, Saltney, I noticed that the tidal bore could be seen in the distance. Only a small bore today, but still worth waiting for, so I headed to the Saltney Ferry Footbridge, a waited at the top of the steps used by people when they descended the steps to get into the boat and ferried across.
walking back along the Riverside Path back towards River Lane, I was lucky enough to see a small party of Long-tailed tits, always a delight to see. Still lots of male Common blackbirds singing over their territory. I saw one juvenile Robin, three Mallard duckling and three Moorhen chicks, signs of this year's breeding successes.
It was so pleasant walking, that I decided to extend the walk by going down Victoria Road to Boundary Lane and back up Sandy Lane.
This last minute extension to the walk, gave me the bonus sighting of a Common buzzard, circling overhead over Sandy Lane.
Birds seen or heard today included: House sparrow (Victoria Road seems to be a House sparow hotspot), Collared dove, Woodpigeon, Mallard, Moorhen, Common chaffinch, Greenfinch, Blackcap, Goldfinch, Common blackbird, European robin, Carrion crow, Jackdaw, Black headed gull, Lesser black back gull, Herring gull, Barn swallow, House martin, Black billed magpie,  Common buzzard and Long tailed tit.
