On the summit of Moel y Gamelin, looking at the ridge to come.
One of several obliging male Stonechats seen today.
At the ramparts of Moel y Gaer.
Ed makes it to the trig point on Moel Morfydd.
Martyn made it as well. Spot the new Leki.
The only way is down!
Or is?
The view from our lunch spot, looking towards the Arenigs.
The Clwydians from the path on the north west side of th Llantysilio Mountans.
Looking back along the path through the bracken
The  heather (mainly Bell heather) on the western slopes of the Llantysilio Mountains.
Tormentil on the path to Pen-bedw.
It's the only way!
The first small quarry on the way to Plas Norway.
Looks like a mountain, but it's only part of the Moel y Faen quarry.
Looks like the Moel y Faen Quarry is still operating.
Not far to go now.
Distance: 7.7 miles. Climb: 1906’
Time: 5 hours 27 minutes. On the move walking average: 2.0 m.p.h.
Overall walk average: 1.4 m.p.h.
Temperature: 16.2 Celsius to 18.6 Celsius, although it felt much warmer than that as we contoured around the western slopes between waist high bracken.
Beaufort Wind Force: 0 - 4 Mainly a very pleasant refreshing Ligth breeze, although it did gust to a 13.2 m.p.h. Moderate breeze as we crossed Moel Morfydd.
Group: Martyn and Ed
The weather forecast today was looking good, dry with a pleasant temperature of around 17 Celsius, accompanied by a cooling north westerly breeze. There was lots of intermittent sunshine, but the frequent cloud cover made it very feel pleasant. Just right for walking.
We arrived at the Ponderosa art about 09-45, and already it was pretty busy with lots of motor bikes and tourists in cars.
The start of the walk from the Ponderosa is a steady climb, but at this point the peak, Moel y Faen is not in sight. This is typical of the whole range, false summit after false summit, always a relief when the real summit is reached.
Distant views today were somewhat misty, although we could just about make out the Clwydians, The Berwyns, The Arenigs and Eryri as we progressed along the range.
We came across three mountain bikers, but at least one struggled to make it to the top of Moel Morfydd, despite being on an e-bike!
As we descended from Moel Morfydd to Bwlch y Groes we were entertained by what we first thought was a buzzard but it turned out to be a remote-controlled model of a bird of prey!
Lunch was taken by the road at Bwlch y Groes.
After lunch, we needed to pay more attention to the walk description to ensure that we kept on track. Thankfully Dave Berry’s description was pretty good as was his sketch map and we had no problems keeping on course.
The sketch map indicated a fair number of stiles, but for once, they were all adjacent to gates that we were able to use. We did have to cross over two wire fences, but thankfully they were low enough that they weren’t an issue.
Birds seen or heard today: Meadow pipit, Stonechat, Common kestrel, Raven and Common buzzard.
We arrived back at the cars, having had a very enjoyable walk on this “delightful” roller coaster Llantysilio Mountain ridge.
