The forecast for today was good, dry and at 17 Celsius didn’t look like it being too hot for walking. Possible rain after lunch.
This was pretty well what we got, and with only intermittent sunshine it made it really pleasant conditions for walking. After lunch we did get a feeling of dampness in the air, never enough to declare it was raining or needed us to put waterproofs on or use an umbrella.
The main objective today was to see if we could get up close to The Temple in Temple Wood. Initially one path we hoped to use was on private land and did not allow access, so we ended up walking through Temple Wood past The Temple. After emerging from the wood, we noticed a path through the grass which we followed and to our delight it ended at The Temple – main objective achieved!
The next objective was where to have lunch, and we opted to aim for Chirk Castle and use the many seats / picnic tables available in the “Meditation Garden”. Our route involved linking in with the access track to the castle, well over two miles and seemed to go on for ever!
Arriving at the Castle Main Car park are, we found it very busy, but thankfully we had our chosen lunch spot to ourselves.
After lunch we only had about 2 miles to go, following a pleasant concessionary path through the park back to Chirk.
Ed, wanted to g through the canal tunnel, but I vetoed the ide and we went back to the start past the “chocolate factory”, although today there was no smell to detected to say chocolate was being made to today.
Birds seen or heard today: Common buzzard, Carrion crow, Barn swallow, Carrion crow, Woodpigeon, Mallard and Common pheasant.
We arrived back at the cars having had a good walk, all objectives achieved and looking forward to a pint of the Titanic Brewery’s Plum Porter at the Pant-y-y-Ochain, Objective three achieved as well!
