Whilst waiting in the forestry for the Upton group, Sue and Ed heard the first distant Cuckoo of the year.
We started by climbing Moel Arthur but someone decided to take a different route whilst the majority of the group went the correct way. We stopped at the summit for a coffee break with 360° views over to Liverpool, Moel Famau , The North Wales Coast and Eryri.
We then continued down to the Moel Arthur carpark which had a few cars in it and then contoured around Moel Arthur where we all heard and saw a cuckoo in the valley. We then passed the Tan Y Bryn woods which had a good display of bluebells and a Wonderful display of wild flowers welcomed us on the lane leading down from Pen Y Bryn.
We continued into Llangwyfan Woods and lunch was taken looking over the Vale of Denbigh on the normal hillside which was full of dandelions.
After lunch we climbed up Penycloddiau where there were plenty of Welsh Black cows. We stopped at the burial mound taking in views of Eryri and the countryside then made our way down to the cars.
A great day for walking with signs that spring has eventually arrived!
After walk refreshments were taken by some in the The Dinorben Arms.
Birds Identified on walk: Cuckoo, Common Chiffchaff , Eurasian Robin, Carrion Crow, Pheasant, Goldfinch , Woodpecker, Stonechat, Common Buzzard, Chaffinch, Eurasian Sparrowhawk, Skylark, Partridge , Eurasian Blackbird, Willow Warbler, Wren, Song Thrush, Wood Pigeon and Meadow Pipit
Looks much better walk than my 6 miles walking from Chester to the Countess and back to Chester, followed by walking from Broughton Retail Park back home. Martyn
