Harris Hikers Solo Adbentures Friday 22nd May 2020

Breakfast in the Garden.
A greedy Black-billed magpie.
A female House sparrow gets her turn.
Juvenile youngsters at the table.
A Pied wagtail prefers the grass.
A Bretton Round Exploring a Previously Unknown (to me) Footpath.
A windy day at Bretton.
A Lapwing with its head feathers blown flat.
The start of the exploring.
The path starts through an archway of overhanging Wilow trees.
The athh then leads to the road near the Tesco Delivery Entrance.
I wasn't expecting a footbridge leading onto open ground.
A stile leads into someone's garden.
Looking back across the garden nearest to the Bretton Lane end of the path.
The Bretton Lane start of the path.
The start of the Bretton Road path.
Rooks on a nest in trees on the Broughton end of Bretton Road.
St., Mary's Church, Broughton.
Distance: 5.5 miles. Climb: >700' wind assisted on the GPS, but in reality more like 50'.
Time: 2 hours 11 minutes: On the move walking average: 2.9 m.p.h. Overall walk average: 2.5 m.p.h.
It was a little breezy today, so I set off wearing my light fleece. I kept it on throughout, but should have taken it off after about an hour.
My first surprise today was seeing a pair of Coots with five chicks on the Airbus mitigation pond.
Exploring the new to me path was easy to follow and looked pretty well used, despite the last hundred metres crossing the lawns of three consecutive gardens.
The last time I went down Bretton Road was before the A55 was built. It was a quiet road then, but is now a dead end that leads to a path and comes out at a roundabout near Broughton Retail Park.
I don't think the local residents will be too pleased to see two traveller's caravans parked up with adjacent portaloos.
After going past St., Mary's Church at Broughton I was back on the A5104, Chester Road, an easy stroll homeward assisted by now strong wind.
Birds see or heard today included: House sparrow, Goldfinch, Jackdaw, Carrion crow, Lapwing, House sparrow, Greenfinch, Jackdaw, Chiffchaff, Common blackbird and Rook.
Having now used this path, I will use it as a variation to be included on my Bretton walks.
