Conwy Harbour.
Conwy Harbour again.
Conwy Harbour and again.
Three Mute  swans, looks like t8hey are last years brood.
Hear the Sandwich terns as they fly over the water.
A  drinks stop before Mike took the high road and the rest of us took the low road.
Mike starts the climb to Caer Seion.
Distant hazy views across the valley towards Snowdonia.
Admiring the view and debating what they can see.
A common whitethroat sen from the North Wales Path.
The  view from the North Wales Path towards the Carneddau .
We though that we had beaten Mike to the rendezvous point, but we hadn't,
He was sitting in the shade of nearby tree!
The view of the Great Orme from our rendezvous spot.
On the track across Maen Esgob.
On the track across Maen Esgob,
Trying to stay in the shade of the wall as we had lunch.
Mike at lunch.
Conwy Castle from near our lunch spot.
Not many Bluebells seen today.
Alpacas in the field.
This Alpaca didn't want to have its photo taken.
Even these sheep were resting in theshade.
Conwy Mountain from the track to Mount Pleasant.
Two of us went past, but two were tempted to go in and have an early start to their liquid refreshments.
Mike and I joined them later, after changing our footwear back at the car.
Distance: 7.5 miles. Climb: 1485’.
Time: 5 hours 46 minutes.
On the move walking average: 2.2 m.p.h.
Overall walk average: 1.6 m.p.h.
Temperature: 17 Celsius at the start. Max recorded 27 Celsius as we crossed Maen Esgob 24.2 Celsius in the shade at lunch time. 24.7Celsius in the shade near Conwy Youth Hostel (The highest temperature forecast by the Met Office for this location was just 21 Celsius!)
Beaufort Wind Force: 0 – 2. Mainly calm and not enough to measure before lunch, but occasionally it reached a 4 m.p.h. Light breeze as we descended past Craigfedwen.
Group: Martyn, Mike, Nigel and Ed.
This is the second time we have set off on a Conwy Mountain walk this year, and once again we failed to complete the walk as planned. This time it was heat of the day that made us decide to cut the walk short after lunch and head for a leisurely after walk drinks at the Albion.
The only variation done on this walk was to take the track that headed more directly over Maen Esgob, rather than take the path to the west of it
It was the first time that we have seen Sandwich terns this year and also the first time that we have heard a Cuckoo calling. We heard it several times, both in the morning and after lunch.
Birds seen or heard today: House sparrow, Dunnock, Goldfinch, Jackdaw, Common blackbird, Carrion crow, Chiffchaff, Willow warbler, European robin, Stonechat, Great tit, Woodpigeon, Winter wren, Skylark, Meadow pipit, Blackcap, Wheatear, Common chaffinch, Raven, Black billed magpie, Oystercatcher, Common buzzard, Mute swan, Red-billed chough, Sandwich tern and Cuckoo
After walk drinks were enjoyed at the Albion in Conwy, where to our surprise there was only about four other people enjoying the hospitality of this special venue. Ed and Mike enjoyed Facer’s North tar Porter and Nigel preferred Conwy Brewery’s Clogwyn Gold. I was driving, so enjoyed a couple of pints of Coca Cola / Pepsi with ice!
Home in time to clean my boots, have something to eat before heading to my church meeting.
