The weather forecast today was looking really good and promised sunshine all day with temperatures in the mid-teens. Both Meteo and the Met Office got it spot on!
It was good to meet up again with Phil and enjoy reminiscing about walks that we had done together before he relocated to Scotland.
Although the main aim of the walk today was to revisit some of the sections on the Sandstone Trail, we included the Woodhouse Hill Fort and the trg point on Helsby Hill.
The route we took up to Woodhouse, was a little too steep for me, and one I will never repeat, especially as there are several easier paths to take.
Lunch was taken at the War Memorial on Frodsham Hill, where we took advantage of three of the benches in the Sun. Distant views were rather hazy, although could make out the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool from both Frodsham Hill and Helsby Hill, and Moel Famau from Helsby Hill.
This was probably the driest conditions underfoot that I have ever experienced going round Frodsham Hill.
Birds seen or heard today: House sparrow, Dunnock, Goldfinch, Jackdaw, Common blackbird, Carrion crow, Chiffchaff, Blue tit, European robin, Common buzzard, Great tit, Woodpigeon, Greenfinch, Song thrush, Mallard, Pintail, Winter wren, Song thrush, Blackcap, Common chaffinch and Eurasian jay.
We arrived back at the car, having had a really good walk with only disappointing point, being the GPS reading indicating that we had only done 7.6 miles, when it felt a little longer than that!
After walk drinks were enjoyed at Netherton Hall, Frodsham, where Lees bitter and MPA wee enjoyed by the Upton contingent, whilst the drivers enjoyed either tea or lemonade. We were able to sit outside. We sat in the shade, and at briefly, the strongest wind of the day, made us think perhaps we should have chosen seats in the Sun!
