On the way to the tower!
The watchtower on Watchtower Hill.
David explaining everything!
Looking South towards Watchtower Hill.
The view from my lunch spot, but unfortunately taking this photo I was looking towards the Sun , and my camera doesn't have an appropriate filter.
Looking North over Abergele towards the coast as we head for "home".
Walk stats: Distance; 8.2 miles. (8.4 miles on my newest GPS, >9 on Michel's GPS!).
Time: 4 hours 52 minutes. On the move walking average: 2.3 m.p.h, Overall walk average: 1.7 m.p.h.
Group: Martyn, Michel and Sue, Fran, Nigel and David S.
This was a good day for walking, dry, largely sunny and very little wind of note. In fact I left my Paramo jacket in my rucksack for most of the walk, except for a brief time just after lunch.
Distant views weren't brilliant, but on recent walks last week) we have had much worse! At least today, we could make out Moel Famau and Conwy Mountain..
The climb through Watchtower Woods seemed to be an endless set of steps, but the last part was a very pleasant track.
The watchtower gave us, probably our best viewpoint towards, Conwy Mountain. In addition as we left the watchtower, we had much attention from a friendly shire horse We all escaped without any harm.
Lunch was taken at a small quarry South of Moelfre Isa, Nigel and me sat in the Sun , bu the others chose perching spots in the shade.
After lunch Nigel decided to set of for the trig point, but ended up coming back before reaching his objective. (Probably guilt - Fran was looking forward to a drink at the Brit!)
Our return route back to Abergele was more direct than the outward journey, but we did end up retracing a very muddy path back to Abergele.
Birds seen or heard today included: House sparrow, Common blackbird, Goldfinch, European nuthatch, Goldfinch, Collared dove, Mallard, Jackdaw, Eurasian jay, Blue tit and Great tit.
After walk drink were annoyed at the Britannia Inn at Pentre Halkyn, where the Lees Bittier was the drink of choice and not regretted!
Our only disappointment was to find a stile blocked by barbed wire and a nearby stile removed totally. Another problem for us on our walks suggestion that landowner's South of Abergele go out of their way to block public rights of way to deter walkers!
