This was a good day for walking, plenty of sunshine, but feeling on the cool side whenever we were exposed to the Easterly breeze.
It was a good day for birds of prey as we saw a Peregrine falcon. three Red kites and at least four Common buzzard. Other birds seen or heard today included: House sparrow, Common blackbird, Winter wren, Chiffchaff, Willow warbler, Wheatear, Black-billed magpie, European robin, Red legged grouse, Blue tit, Goldfinch, Skylark and Meadow pipit.
On this occasion, we attempted to follow the route description from the Lead Mine Centre along a former rail track to the Minera Quarry and followed the path on the North side of the quarry as far as Ty Hir Farm.
The section from Ty Hir Farm as straight forward at first, but the track soon ran out and we contoured through the heather on a feint often disappearing track that eventually led to the Aber Sychnant which we followed until we located a footbridge. The path from the footbridge led to the Minera to World's End road. It was on this path that David S spotted an Adder, but no-one else managed to see it before it had scuttle off into the grass.
Lunch was taken just after reaching the road, where we sat on the grass sheltering from the breeze behind raised ground around an old mine shaft.
The path across Minera Mountain was quite boggy, and the path from Fron Deg past Mutton Hall and Brookfield Farm was new to us and had a few interesting sections to negotiate, including a field one field with several cows with young calves.
We arrived back at the cars, having had an enjoyable and varied walk and looking forward to refreshments at the Pant y Ochain at Gresford, where once more the Snowdonia Ale went down well.
